Marriage shall be solely a religious institution. All that the
government shall concern itself with is civil unions. Civil Unions will
be between two consenting adults who wish to have the legal protections
that are currently associated with marriage. Any religious organization
can grant marriage to any party according to their religious beliefs.
==Philosophy Behind the Law==
Right now in our nation we are in a disagreement when it comes to
gays being allowed to marry. We have several diffrent camps of wildly
varing opinions.
It is difficult to form a good narative that incorperates my
thoughts on this issue. So, instead of a good flowing post, you shall
get the cursed outline of my basic thoughts on the issue:
# Government “shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof”[http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment01/].
In otherwords, the government should stay out of religous matters.
# Marrige is a religous term in origin.
# Civil Unions are non-religious government made legal arangements that provide the same protections and rights as a marriage.
# There is no reason that two consenting adults should not be able to engage in a civil union.
Examples:
# A gay couple trying to build a life together.
# An unmarried brother and sister in a platonic relationship trying to make ends meet.
#Two best friends in a similar relationship so they can visit each
other in the hospital, be on each other’s insurance, raise a child
ect…
Dispite all my tryings otherwise, I cannot think that on a religious
level, marriage should be anything but between a man and a wife.
Different religious institutions have varring opinions on this subject.
In light of the above, perhaps a comprimise is in order. What if we
took marriage completely away from the government? Make civil unions
for all couples of all degrees - Hetersexual, Homosexual, and Platonic.
Leave marriage as solely a religous denotation.
Under this idea, if a couple wanted the legal protections and rights
currently associated with marriage they would get a civil union from
the government. If they wanted a formal denotation of being married,
they get that from a church or other religious organization. When it
comes to the sex issue, have the government butt out of the lives of
consenting adults - we have bigger fish to fry.
