hard drive western digital
Today after work I stopped by Best Buy and Circuit City looking for
deals on hard drives. All best buy wanted to do was charge a whole lot
for everything. Circuit City, on the otherhand did the same thing, but
with rebates. Since I have had good experiances with rebates with them,
I decided to make a purchase. I picked up a 250 GB Western Digital Hard
Drive. Nice thing about it is that my brother is going to buy my 80 GB
hard drive that I have now for $40. Pricing is as follows:

Price was: $179.99
Sale: -$20.00
Mail-in rebate(s): -$80.00
Money from Sale of old HD: -$40.00
—————————————-
Final Price: $39.00

Not too bad for 250 GB.

Planet X?!

Honzo July 29th, 2005

Body larger than Pluto is found. No name as of yet; there is only a
denotation of object 2003UB313. I am kinda skeptical that this is a
actual “planet.” We shall see.

Never, when you have to be at work at 8:30, start messing with your
blog’s CSS and templates. Suddenly you will find that it is 2:35
freaking AM and that you still have to do laundry for tommorow.

It is always better for my sleep habits that Meredith does not go
down to Versailles and helps with my little sister’s wedding shower.

A Civil Solution to the Gay Marriage Issue.

Honzo July 29th, 2005

Right now in our nation we are in a disagreement when it comes to
gays being allowed to marry. We have several different camps of wildly
varying opinions.

It is difficult to form a good narrative that incorporates my
thoughts on this issue. So, instead of a good flowing post, you shall
get the cursed outline of my basic thoughts on the issue:

  1. Government “shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof1. In other words, the government should stay out of religious matters.
  2. Marriage is a religious term in origin.
  3. Civil Unions are non-religious government made legal arrangements that provide the same protections and rights as a marriage.
  4. There is no reason that two consenting adults should not be able to engage in a civil union.
    Examples:

    • A gay couple trying to build a life together.
    • An unmarried brother and sister in a platonic relationship trying to make ends meet.
    • Two
best friends in a similar relationship so they can visit each other in
the hospital, be on each other’s insurance, raise a child ect…
  5. Despite all my trying otherwise, I cannot think that on a religious
level, marriage should be anything but between a man and a wife.
  6. Different religious institutions have varying opinions on this subject.

In light of the above, perhaps a compromise is in order. What if we
took marriage completely away from the government? The government
should make civil unions for all couples of all degrees - Heterosexual,
Homosexual, and Platonic. Leave marriage as solely a religious
denotation.

Under this idea, if a couple wanted the legal protections and rights
currently associated with marriage they would get a civil union from
the government. If they wanted a formal denotation of being married,
they get that from a church or other religious organization. When it
comes to the sex issue, have the government butt out of the lives of
consenting adults - we have bigger fish to fry.

Think that will work? I would love to hear feedback.

The Release of Documents">The Release of Documents

Honzo July 28th, 2005

I have been pretty serious here lately. Let’s end that and disguise some of that seriousness with humor.

Bush to Senate Judiciary: Release Your Own Records by Scott Ott:

(2005-07-28) — The White House today called for members
of the Senate Judiciary Committee to release all of their tax records
and other personal documents so Americans can gain insight into the
judicial philosophy and character of those who will help choose the
next Supreme Court Justice.

“These Senators hold the future of our legal system in their hands,”
said presidential spokesman Scott McClellan. “They’re going to place
someone on the court who may serve for 20 or 30 years. So, we need to
probe their ideology, and directly ask them whether they will vote for
Judge John Roberts before confirmation hearings begin.”

The Bush administration has a team of lawyers standing by ready to
comb through millions of pages of senatorial documents in an attempt to
brand some Judiciary Committee members as “extremists who are out of
step with mainstream America.”

Vista Beta 1 - Any Good?

Windows Visa LogoWindows Vista Longhorn Beta 1 Fact Sheet.

Call me a Micro$oft fan boy, but dispite their problems, they get
the job done when it comes to OS. I wanna try out Longhorn pretty bad,
although I suspect it will not be worth the upgrade price. I know of a
person who has access to the beta testing, so I am eager to play around
on that system. I can’t wait to see how the improvements work, and how
the system responds to XP vs Longhorn.

Update: I hope to play around with it at the above person’s place in about, oh thirteen hours and fifteen minutes.

On being Pro-Life

Honzo July 26th, 2005

Today I joined the Pro-Life Blog Ring. I want to briefly give my Pro-Life position.

Abortion:

I believe that life is inherently valuable and that it begins at
conception. I believe that God endows that life with a soul very soon
after that, although I am hesitant to say exactly when.

This religious view can also be defended on non-religious grounds, as I have attempted in my undergraduate thesis, An Objective View of Personhood.

Iraqi Constitution 1st Draft - 1st Thoughts

Honzo July 26th, 2005

Iraq, the Model: If this is going to be the final draft, then I’m going to say “NO”.

Although Islam and only Islam is introduced in the first draft of the constitution and a few minor points, Omar has this to say:

We have fought for a long time to reach the point where
we can write a constitution that serves our needs and protects our
future from oppression and dictatorship.
I say it once again, we’re practicing AND learning democracy at the
same time and the people may be fooled once but they can’t be fooled
all the time.

One Man’s FreedomFighter…

Honzo July 26th, 2005

In dicussing the problem of terror, Gindy takes a look at hipocracy on the topic of the most infamous of all terrorists, the Palistine Terror Groups:

But, alas, the anti-Israel Left (an almost redundant
description), too, did not understand the genie it had helped unleash
onto the world. Why is it all right for Muslims to blow up Israeli
children, but not Russian children? Israeli buses, but not British
buses? Jews in Israel, but not Muslims in Iraq?

There comes a time where one man’s freedom fighter is always a damn terrorist. When you target civilians, you are a terrorist, no matter what your cause. Outside the blogway echos these same sentiments.

IAN MCKELLEN So, you know what I just
realized? I can’t believe I didn’t think of this in the first movie.
Even if Elijah and Sean get into Mordor, there will be thousands of
Orcs there to stop them from destroying the ring. How silly of me not
to see this glaringly obvious problem sooner.

VIGGO MORTENSEN Wait. What if we went to Mordor’s
gate and fought? We’d draw them all out! Then instead of being inside
Mordor, standing between Elijah and Mount Doom, they’d all be at the
gate, killing us!

It is a powerful line, one to keep in mind every time I start to
listen to people who blame us for 911 and the Jews for the actions of

multiculturalism islam west

Perhaps this is the greatest failing of Post-Modernism, the lack of
objectivity. We try so hard not to have our current culture be the
highest standard that we judge other cultures by. In trying to let go
of that, perhaps we have lost the ability to judge other cultures at
all, in the name of not being bigots. However, I think that that
posistion is an unwise one to take, for a murderer is a murderer when he murders, no matter what the culture is like.

i. Canadian residents must also include on the Sweepstakes Entry correct answer to the following skill-testing question:
20 - [4 1] = ________.
Skill-testing question must be answered by your parent/legal guardian without electronic, mechanical or other assistance.

As proof that McDonalds is crazy, behld this “Extreme Dream

pole and shot a homing missle at it. Hard and fun.

g4 TV is…

Honzo July 24th, 2005

Not worth the electricity that it takes to display it on my TV
screen. Honestly, the channel is terrible. I want to send them a note
that states that not everyone is a thirteen year old hornball who is in
love with bad video games (well, I am not 13). Most of thier prgramming
this friday was dedicated to E3 recaps because, well, they can’t come
up with good programing on their own. They also actually have a
character called “Mr. Xtreeme” who went around and tried to hawk the
most extreeme game of all time. The dude actually had “X”s shaved into
his beard. I have never wanted to tar and feather a person more in my
life.

But enough about that. In other news, the LAN party went well. We
got an early start on gaming, fireing up the towers by 10AM. We
finnished at 11PM, breaking for food a couple of times. I did not live
up to my hype at first, I had some early struggles at Counter Strike,
but played very weill towards the end. The games were our two FPS
staples, Counter Strike Source and Jedi Knight, Jedi Academy. We played
alot on the Episode I final duel level, which is perhaps my favorite
level of all time. Most fun part of the night? I found out how to turn
off the autoteam balance feature on Counter Strike Source and we went 3
humans against 13 bots on a couple of maps, with the score being about
25-2 with the humans having the upper hand.

In related news, I got a good yearly review at work and a good raise
and a good promotion. I don’t like to talk about work details on the
blog, so I will just leave it at that.

LAN Party Warning.

Honzo July 21st, 2005

In the LAN party that is comming up this Friday we will be setting
up a few tournaments, running servers with a 10 game win limit. Each
player will have a bot compliment of 3. There will be two tournaments
running at the same time, one going by team wins and the other by the
number of kills.

Just to warn anyone who is thinking of contesting me for the LAN party kills champions, consider the following:

Last weekend Grant and I were playing a friendly game of
CS Source on Dust 2. We were on opposite teams with a compliment of 3
or 4 teammates each. At the game’s mid-point, Grant and I’s kill levels
were pretty close, 24-21, with me edgiing him by a slim margin of three
points. By the end of the match the score was 39-24 advantage Honzo.

I am not bragging or anything, but I have been on fire as of late. I
have been going with the moderately expensive combo of the bullup (Steyr Aug) and five-seven
lately. That way I have a medium powered handgun that rattles off shots
quickly and a well powered rile that has some zoom. Still, the Bullup
is no Sig SG-552, my favorite gun in the game. I don’t get to use it much because I usually play on the CT side.
