It is confirmed! - Macs are Evil.

Henry Imler January 30th, 2006

Walt Cummings, a traitor and the president’s chief of staff in this season of 24, uses a Mac.

Proof positive that Macs are used by evil people because they are in fact, evil.

Hamas Takes Responsiblity for Election Bombshell(please note the sarcasam)

“We are a very responsible party,” said an unnamed Hamas
spokesman from behind a dark veil, “The Palestinian people trust us
because we are always taking responsibility.”

The source said Hamas has been responsible for reducing crowding at
public shopping and entertainment venues, decreasing global warming by
taking greenhouse gas-producing city buses out of service and widening
the openings at border crossings between Israel and the Palestinian
territory.

At least Hamas is open about its evil intentions

Good Analysis on Hamas and Iran

Henry Imler January 27th, 2006

Palestinian Democracy and the New Iranian Annex

Read all of it, here are some exerpts:

The electoral victory handed to Hamas by the Palestinian
voters will serve to isolate the Palestinian Territories from the West
and its resources while likely transforming it into a de facto annex of
the Islamic Republic of Iran. Without US and (potentially) European
fiscal support, effectively amounting to cash donations, a rapid
domestic collapse of a resource-anemic Hamas-run Palestinian Authority
can only be averted (or forestalled) by an influx of funding from
another source.

and…

Hamas may ultimately be rejected as ineffective by the
Palestinian people, but will it come to pass before Hamas has sparked
open warfare with Israel, which, given Hamas’ new-found position of
governance, would bring even more destruction to the Palestinian
Territories in the form of an Israeli offensive with a ferocity as of
yet unseen by the Palestinians?

Another couple of WMD stories

Henry Imler January 27th, 2006

Iraq’s WMD Secreted in Syria, Sada Says - January 26, 2006 - The New York Sun - NY Newspaper

Mr. Sada, 65, told the Sun that the pilots of the two
airliners that transported the weapons of mass destruction to Syria
from Iraq approached him in the middle of 2004, after Saddam was
captured by American troops.

“I know them very well. They are very good friends of mine. We trust
each other. We are friends as pilots,” Mr. Sada said of the two pilots.
He declined to disclose their names, saying they are concerned for
their safety. But he said they are now employed by other airlines
outside Iraq.

The pilots told Mr. Sada that two Iraqi Airways Boeings were
converted to cargo planes by removing the seats, Mr. Sada said. Then
Special Republican Guard brigades loaded materials onto the planes, he
said, including “yellow barrels with skull and crossbones on each
barrel.” The pilots said there was also a ground convoy of trucks.

The flights - 56 in total, Mr. Sada said - attracted little notice
because they were thought to be civilian flights providing relief from
Iraq to Syria, which had suffered a flood after a dam collapse in June
of 2002.

NBA Trade Celtics and T-Wolves

Henry Imler January 26th, 2006

After the Artest/Peja trade happened another couple of teams pulled the trigger.

Boston will get:
Wally Szczerbiak
Michael Olowokandi
Dwayane Jones
Conditional 1st round draft pic.

T-Wolves will get:
Ricky Davis
Marcus Banks
Mark Blount
Justin Reed
2 Second Round Draft Picks.

What are your thoughts on the trade? I think Wally will be good for
Boston, I think Ricky Davis will hurt the Wolves. Does anyone else
think that playing for vice president of basketball operations Kevin
McHale? I mean, he was a helluva post player, I am proud to have some
of my moves likened to his, but he mades some bad, bad moves. I really
feel sorry for Garnett. He deserves to be traded to a contender. I also
feel sorry for any team Kandi plays for:

One of the few coaching jobs Abdul-Jabbar has held was
with the Clippers for the last half of the 1999-2000 season. He has
unpleasant memories of working with then-Clippers center Michael
Olowokandi, the first overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft.

“He resented having to learn something,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “We had
one episode in practice when he told me he didn’t want me to correct
him in front of the other players.

“When he told me that, I knew I didn’t have a job. He was physically
gifted - he was three-quarters of the way there. The most crucial
aspect is learning the game. He wasn’t into it.”

Hail to Hamas.

Hamas wins.

Henry Imler January 26th, 2006

TIME.com: Hamas Victory is a Middle East Earthquake

The Hamas win raises many questions. Will the new ruling
party recognize Israel, a country it has long worked to destroy? Will
it negotiate a peace settlement with Israel? Will its armed wing and
its newly elected members of parliament work together or is a split
likely? How will Israel handle the political success of a terrorist
group? For now, says Abdul Sattar Kasim, a political analyst from
Nablus University “Hamas will concentrate on domestic issues such as
security and corruption. Hamas wants to work to its own timetable.”

That and drive Israel into the sea.

Israel -> Iran; Iran -> Israel Coma.

Henry Imler January 25th, 2006

Jerusalem Post - Breaking News from Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish World

“Zionists should know that if they do anything evil
against Iran, the response of Iran’s armed forces will be so firm that
it will send them into eternal coma, like Sharon,” Najjar said.

The Iranians just doubled down on the likely impending Israeli strike on their nuclear and missile facilities.

New Projects, The Unsound Wiki

Henry Imler January 25th, 2006

Well, I don’t keep this site as updated as I would like, but I do want to record a couple of site developments.

I have started a new group blog called Mass Theology. We have conservative baptists, liberal evangelicals, etc posting. I have been enjoying it, even though the posting has been sporadic.

In addition to this, I have begun a new, and I think better way to entering my philosophy notes: The Unsound Wiki. I really want to find a good way to keep my notes together in graduate school (providing I get accepted somewhere) so that I might be better able to put suff together when I go to teach. To this end, I an trying out using a wiki. I have put hardly anything on there, a beginings of a Early Greek Philosophy history and the nine rules of propositional logic. I like using the wiki software because it allows me to add and revise the pages and the organizational structure is more geared towards an assembling of knowledge, than a blog, which is more geared towards articles and finalized work. I am thinking about how to meld the two together, since I want this site to be my personal collection of notes and work and also available to people looking for info on the various topics I cover. The hardest part is figuing out the best way to cite sources in the wiki.

In readings, I have started three really good books. I am almost finished with the Probability of God, which is a interesting read. I have cracked Elbow Room: The Varieties of Free Will Worth Wanting and A History of Philosophy by Julian Marias. Freedom is very captivating, since I am very interested in free will vs. determinism. I have only finished one chapter, but I am looking forward to the rest of it. A History of Philosophy is a landmark Spanish text that has been translated into English. Since a formal knowledge of the history of philosophy is one of my weak points, I am soaking up the book.

I also came across a very interesting article about using Altruism as an argument for God’s existence inside an evolutionary framework. I will post about it later.

That is what I have been working on lately, besides worrying about if I get into grad school and what I will do if I do not.

Breaking: Artest to Kings for Peja

Henry Imler January 24th, 2006

Report: Pacers sending Artest to Kings for Stojakovic

Adam, Dave, Smiles, or Drew (Or anyone else that reads this and likes sports), Thoughts?

Update: The trade might have fallen apart:

…Gray reported earlier Tuesday that both teams had
agreed to the trade, pending league approval. Then, according to Gray,
Artest informed both teams he did not want to go to the Kings. In light
of that, Gray reported, the Kings have decided against the trade.

Whats on and up.

Henry Imler January 24th, 2006

Call me a farm boy, but I am very excited that I will be traveling by plane next month. Meredith and I are going to see my brother and sister-in-law and their son in Little Rock, Ar-Kansas. I have only flown once and it was in high school to attend the National Young Leader’s Conference in D.C. Next month will be the first time I will have flown since then and I am looking forward to flying with Meredith.

When it comes to projects, I have tried on and off to get a extra
desktop that was donated to me to run as a file server. I have had some
success, but the system might go to helping my grandmother use the
Internet, if I can find a good linux/wireless adapter setup. I also
have been using ubuntu a lot on my desktop. I like it more and more. I think I will stick to the dual boot setup with Windows XP for gaming.

In a few days, my new TV/FM tuner card will show up from newegg. I am wanting to use it to record the talk radio programs I cannot listen to while I am at work, while I am hanging out with Meredith or are sleeping.

Schools, Part III

Henry Imler January 22nd, 2006

A few days ago I posted a few links about publics schools
from Stossel’s point of view. I want to revisit a few of his points
that really stuck out to me:

(Check out the read more section for quotes related to these points)

  1. Public Schools waste money on projects that do not impact student’s education enough to warrent their cost.
  2. That money would be better spent on teachers and books.
  3. Teacher’s saleries are too low to attract lots of high quality teachers
  4. Hard to fire bad teachers
  5. If child lives in the area covered by a bad school they are stuck there.

Hard to argue with that. The above is the main reason why Missouri
Governor Matt Blount is proposing a law that would require schools to spend 65% of thier funding in the classroom. Quite natually, many people disagree with this proposal 1 2 3.
On the surface, Blunt’s proposal seems to make sense. Spend more in the
classroom, and on teachers. If you draw quality teachers you will
produce quality students. I know many people, including myself that
would love to teach in puplic schools, but the pay does not match the
costs of getting the education. The nation has a very high vested
interest in having quality teachers, I think that they should attract
them by higher saleries.

However, with that said, I am not a teacher, nor a public school
administration offical. I don’t want to claim to have any good answers
here. The case Stossel quoted with the Kansas City school was surely
one of the most extreme examples he could find. He then goes on to
quote a study that showed Catholic Schools out-performing public
schools in New York. To further evidence his case for a voucher system,
he gives us the example of the American Indian Charter School in
Oakland, CA:

Hard to argue with that. As a firm believer in the public school system, is this the way it should be done across the board?

NBA Trade Rumors

Henry Imler January 20th, 2006

The following are some NBA trade rumors that have been floating around lately.

  1. Michael Olowokandi - Timberwolves to ??? : There has been heavy talk about moving Olowokandi . With all the speculation about Artest
coming to the Wolves, one has to wonder if the Pacers want some Kandi
down low. Another possibility is a trade to the Celtics for Mark Blount.
  2. Eric Williams
    - Raptors : Eric has expressed that he wants out of a loosing situation
in Toronto and the GM is happy to see what he can get out of Williams.
  3. Latrell
Sprewell - The Clippers have expressed interest in the unemployed
guard, but Spree wants more than the veteran’s minimum of $1.1 million.
Instead he will likely sign with one of the division leaders in hopes
of getting to the final round.
  4. Steve Francis - Magic : In a good version of the Artest situation, six teams have expressed interest in the recently suspended guard.
  5. Mike James - Raptors to Memphis : The Griz have expressed a heavy interest in James.
  6. Mark Blount
    - Celtics to Cleveland or the Timberwolves : As for the Cavs trade,
they might give up Drew Gooden and Damon Jones (I’d get rid of a bad
attitude, streaky shooting, and bad ball handling Jones any day of the
week - He cost Miami a trip to the finals)
  7. Chucky Atkins
    - Wizards to the Memphis. Sources say that the Wizards agreed to buy
out his contract. New York wanted him, but it looks like he will sign
by the end of the week.

The Probability of God Part I

Henry Imler January 20th, 2006

This is part one of a book review of The Probability of God by Stephen D. Unwin Ph.D. This review will cover chapters 1-3 where he explains his scope and the six evidentiary areas. Part II will cover chapters 4-7, which contains the mathematical basis and evaluation of the six evidentiary areas and will arrive at the actual probability of God. Part III will cover chapters 8-12, where Unwin discusses where one goes from there.

Wow, France grows some hair.

Henry Imler January 19th, 2006

France warns: Nukes in response to terror

France said on Thursday it would be ready to launch a
targeted nuclear strike against any state that carried out a terrorist
attack on French soil.

In a speech defending France’s costly nuclear deterrent and
toughening policy against terrorism, President Jacques Chirac said
Paris must be able to hit back hard at a hostile state’s centers of
power and its “capacity to act”.

Wow. I don’t even know what to say. Part of me likes the toughness, another part of me hates to see a nuke threat.
