It is a biased book, no doubt about that. Since I am no expert on the subject, I can't really speak to the sources he left out.

On the issue of the Book of Abraham, Bushman does beat around the bush some. However, his beating does fit with his hypothesis of believing Smith. Bushman counters that God could have been using the Egyptian papyri to inspire Smith to write the Book of Abraham even though he was not really translating the papyri (even though he thought he was). Granted, this is a work around and I don't buy it, but given that Smith was a inspired prophet, it fits.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('1249','Henry Imler','It is a biased book, no doubt about that.
I have been reading Vogel's biography of Smith which sees Smith as a "pious fraud" I hope soon to read Bushman;s book. I have seen some reviews which are not as positive as yours and which point out how selectivly Bushman uses evidence to suit his purpose as a believing Mormon.
Lets cut to the chase, especially the issue of the Book of Abraham, so much material shows it was Smith's imagination not some translation of some Egyptian papyri
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('1248','Noel','I have been reading Vogel\'s biography of Smith which sees Smith as a \"pious fraud\" I hope soon to read Bushman;s book.
