GRE

Honzo December 12th, 2005

I took the GRE today. I got a 560 in Verbal, a 5.0 in Analytical
Writing, and 690 in Quantitative. I lucked out on the Analytical
Writing topics. Not that I can talk to you about them - I had to sign
away all rights to bitch about them. (he he) They even made me use
cursive to write out this paragraph where I promised not to let out any
of the secret test questions. Yes, cursive, the script that no one
outside three professions uses. That was seriously the hardest part of
my day.

I still hate the Verbal Section. I can handle the analogies and the
fill in the blank. The antonyms section is filled with words that
absolutely none uses… ever. While I cannot mention any of the
specifics, (see above for why) I did come across about 20 words that I
had never seen before. Notice I am saying, I did not know what they
meant, I had never seen them in print or heard them spoken in 19 years
of schooling. And apparently these are words that I need to know so
badly that they are on a test that helps determine my future.

Anyway, I don’t really know how I did. According to GRE Online Guide from wordhacker.com and the “Interpreting Your GRE Scores
(PDF) from the GRE website, I did ok. I did score above the mean of the
general testing public. I also did better in Verbal and Analytical
Writing than the mean in each of the “Broad Intended Graduate Major
Fields”. I out preformed all of the fields with the exception of
physical sciences and engineering in teh Quantitative Reasoning section.

Update: I recieved my Analytical Writing score.
