Iraqi Constitution 1st Draft - 1st Thoughts

Honzo July 26th, 2005

Iraq, the Model: If this is going to be the final draft, then I’m going to say “NO”.

Although Islam and only Islam is introduced in the first draft of the constitution and a few minor points, Omar has this to say:

We have fought for a long time to reach the point where
we can write a constitution that serves our needs and protects our
future from oppression and dictatorship.
I say it once again, we’re practicing AND learning democracy at the
same time and the people may be fooled once but they can’t be fooled
all the time.

From what I can tell their Constitution seems to be leaving out necessary gaurentees.

I hear you Gindy. However, I do have hope that it will evolve into
something better. Of course, my version of their constitution will
differ alot from what will produce. However, we can’t write it for
them. The part where it can be amended every so often gives me hope
that they will be able to correct errors.
